Division III player cut after he decided to kneel during anthem

-

A backup quarterback for Division III Albright College in Pennsylvania was cut for kneeling during the national anthem.

Sophomore Gyree Durante took a knee before Saturday’s game. He said he was “taught you fight for what you believe in and youdon’tbowtoanyone.”

The school said Durante was cut because he violated a team decision to show unity by kneeling during the coin toss, but standing during the anthem. The school said the players understood there could be consequences for anyone that didn’t support the team’s decision.

Auburn: The Tigers hired a law firm to review allegations that a part-time academic staffer took an online test for a football player.

ESPN’S Outside the Lines reported Wednesday that a mentor took the final exam for a player from the 2016 team.

Tennessee: The Volunteers will start redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano at quarterback in place of Quinten Dormady as Tennessee seeks to bounce back from its first shutout loss since 1994.

Guarantano has gone 12 of 24 for 54 yards passing with one touchdown and no interceptions this season.
