Stop letting NRA call shots

-

As a resident of the Las Vegas area, I am heartbroken by the senseless act of a coward, shooting innocent people from the 32nd floor of a hotel. I am disgusted by the political response.

Paul Ryan, the House speaker, reacted by calling for mental health reform. Really? We need new leaders.

Our current political leaders lack the backbone to represent the voters who elected them. They have no problem accepting election contributions from the NRA and the industry they are supposed to regulate. Responsible, sane Americans have the right to protect themselves and their families.

These same people overwhelmingly agree there is no place for automatic and semiautomatic weapons on our streets. As a hunter, I’d add there is no place for these weapons in the woods, either.

As demonstrated earlier this week, we all know the purpose of these weapons. Our current leaders couldn’t even agree to close the gun show loophole for background checks.

It’s time we, as Americans, demand action from our leaders. There is no debate on this matter. Americans and there families are being devastated by our leaders’ inaction on a regular basis. It’s time to show some backbone. Michael Hughes, Boulder City
