Downtown streets to close for several weekend events

-

Several downtown streets will close for three events scheduled for this weekend, Las Vegas city officials said.

The Las Vegas Pride Night Parade will follow the city’s traditional parade route on Friday along Fourth Street, with major closures running between Las Vegas Boulevard and Stewart Avenue.

Even though the parade kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Fourth Street and sections of several cross streets along the route will start closing at 3 p.m. The streets will reopen by midnight.

Closures will return to Fourth Street between Clark and Lewis Avenues starting at 5 a.m. Saturday as crews set up for the Las Vegas Book Festival. The road reopens at midnight, long after the one-day book festival ends.

One Drop’s Walk for Water will lead to a 2.7-mile closure between The

Smith Center and Springs Preserve as organizers try to pay tribute to the people who walk to collect water from a stream every day.

Closures start at 5 a.m. between the two venues, taking in parts of Symphony Parkway, Grand Central Parkway,

Alta Drive, Valley View Boulevard and Meadows Lane. The streets will reopen by noon. He was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and had been incarcerated since 1980.
