UNLV’S women’s tennis squad caps near-sweep at home meet

The UNLV women’s tennis team closed its fall schedule by winning the main draw championship in every singles flight and coming one match point short of taking both doubles crowns Sunday in the Rebel Invitational at Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Aiwen Zhu won the first-flight title match in straight sets, En-pei Huang won two tiebreakers in winning the second flight, and that duo teamed for an 8-1 doubles triumph.

Izumi Asano won the third-flight title in three sets, and Juliet Zhang took the fourth flight.

Josh Adachi, who allowed one goal in three games and stopped two UNLV penalty kicks in the Redhawks’ semifinal win, was named tournament MVP.
