Record-setters Judge, Bellinger unanimous Rookies of the Year

-

Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger received every first-place vote in their respective leagues in being named the majors’ Rookies of the Year.

Judge hit an American League rookie-record 52 home runs for the New York Yankees. Bellinger’s 39 home runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers set the National League rookie mark.

Judge is the Yankees’ first Rookie of the

Year since Derek Jeter. Bellinger gave the Dodgers a record 18 winners.

This was the first time both Rookie of the Year awards were unanimous since 1997, when Boston’s Nomar Garciaparra and Philadelphia’s Scott Rolen won.

■ Yankees: ESPN broadcaster Aaron Boone and San Francisco bench coach Hensley Meulens will be the next candidates to interview for New York’s managerial vacancy, the New York Post reported. Also, Oakland denied the Yankees’ request to interview manager Bob Melvin, The Athletic reported.

■ Braves: Alex Anthopoulos, a former executive with Toronto and the Los Angeles Dodgers, was named Atlanta’s general manager, and John Hart was removed as team president. Anthopoulos, 40, will have autonomy of baseball operations. Hart, 69, will assume a senior adviser role.

■ Astros: Outfielder Carlos Beltran, 40, a nine-time All-star in 20 major league seasons with five teams, announced his retirement. A three-time Gold Glove winner, he batted .279 with 435 home runs.

■ Padres: San Diego will host the Los

Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series in Monterrey, Mexico, from May 4-6, the third regular-season series there and first since 1999.
