Holiday’s last-second layup gets UCLA past Wisconsin

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Aaron Holiday got a scooping layup to drop just before the final buzzer Tuesday night, giving No. 23 UCLA a 72-70 victory over Wisconsin in the third-place game of the Hall of Fame Classic.

The Bruins (4-1) trailed 6559 with about 4 minutes left, but Holiday knocked down two 3-pointers and converted two free throws to spur the comeback. Wisconsin tied it 70-all when Khalil Iverson made the second of two foul shots with 31.5 seconds left, but that was enough time for UCLA.

Holiday got the ball at the top of the key, briefly lost control, then roared down the right side of the lane past Badgers star Ethan Happ and scooped up the winning basket.

Happ had 19 points and nine rebounds to lead Wisconsin (2-3), which has lost three straight games, all to ranked teams. Iverson, D’MItrik Trice and Brad Davison had 14 points apiece.

At Lawrence, Kan., Svi Mykhailiuk scored 21 points, Udoka Azubuike added 20 and Kansas (4-0) cruised to a resounding victory over Texas Southern (0-5).

At Lahaina,

No. 3 Kansas 114, Texas Southern 71 — No. 6 Wichita State 80, Marquette 66 —

Hawaii, Landry Shamet scored 19 points, Connor Frankamp added 13 and Wichita State (4-0) advanced into the Maui Invitation­al title game after beating Marquette (2-2).

No. 12 Cincinnati 75, Richmond 48 —

Atgeorge Town, Cayman Islands,

Cane Broome led a balanced attacked with 13 points and Cincinnati (5-0) beat Richmond (1-3) to roll into the championsh­ip game of the Cayman Islands Classic.

At Lahaina, Hawaii, T.J. Gibbs

No. 13 Notre Dame 92, Louisiana State 53 —

scored 26 points, Matt Farrell added 17 and Notre Dame (5-0) dominated Louisiana State (3-1) to reach the Maui Invitation­al championsh­ip game.

No. 14 Minnesota 100, Alabama A&M 57 —

At Minneapoli­s, Jordan Murphy had his fifth straight double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Minnesota (5-0) defeated Alabama A&M (0-4).

At New York, Robert Williams had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Texas A&M (4-0) to a victory over Penn State (5-1) in the championsh­ip game of the Progressiv­e Legends Classic at Barclays Center.

At Louisville, Ky., Jordan Nwora came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points,

Deng Adel had 16 points and Louisville (3-0) coasted past Southern Illinois (2-1).

At Kansas City, Mo., King Mcclure had 19 points, Terry Maston made a series of big baskets down the stretch and Baylor (5-0) rallied to beat Creighton (4-1) in the Hall of Fame Classic title game.

At Tuscaloosa, Ala., Collin Sexton scored 29 points and Alabama (4-0) beat Texas-arlington (2-1) in a come-from-behind victory. The Crimson Tide trailed the entire first half.
