A police search for a suspect who used stolen construction equipment to batter a house in the western Las Vegas Valley caused a brief disruption at a nearby junior high school Tuesday morning.

Metropolitan Police Department officers cordoned off an area with crime scene tape about 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Ducharme Avenue and Scherer Street.

Police said they were searching for a man who used a Bobcat construction vehicle Monday night or early Tuesday to push a vehicle into a home where his estranged wife lives near Cimarron Road and Westcliff Drive.

The response ended shortly after 8:30 a.m. when officers entered a home on the 200 block of Null Lane and determined the suspect was not inside, Metro investigations Lt. Nick Farese said.

The home is near Walter Johnson Junior High School, 7701 Ducharme Ave., and caused the school to put in place “a soft lockdown,” said David Roddy, a Clark County School District spokesman. Students arriving for classes at the school were seen running into the building after being dropped off.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
