Yankees’ Judge gets 10 votes to be mayor of New York City
A unanimous winner of the American
League Rookie of the Year Award and runnerup in Most Valuable Player voting, Aaron
Judge also received ballots in another election: for New York City mayor.
The New York Yankees right fielder was listed on 10 ballots as a write-in candidate for mayor, according to final totals released by the New York City Board of Elections.
Bill de Blasio won re-election with 713,634 votes on the Democratic line and 46,478 on the Working Families line.
■ Diamondbacks: Right-handed reliever Brad Boxberger, 29, who has a 3.19 ERA in 231 career innings, was acquired from Tampa Bay for minor league pitcher Curtis Taylor.
■ Angels: Right-handed reliever Jim Johnson, 34, who has a 3.79 ERA in 612 appearances for five teams, was acquired from Atlanta minor league pitcher Justin Kelly.
■ Athletics: Right-hander Yusmeiro Petit, 33, who has a 4.31 ERA in 10 seasons with five teams, agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract.
■ Bluejays: Television analyst Gregg Zaun, 46, a 16-year major league catcher, was fired from Sportsnet for “inappropriate behavior and comments” toward female employees.
■ Braves: Left-handed reliever Rex
Brothers, 29, who has a 3.76 career ERA, signed a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
