Rams to rest Goff, Gurley plus more in regular season finale

-

Quarterback Jared Goff, running back Todd Gurley and defensive tackle Aaron Donald won’t play for the Los Angeles Rams in their season finale against San Francisco.

Coach Sean Mcvay also said Wednesday that he’ll rest left tackle Andrew Whitworth and center John Sullivan against the 49ers on Sunday to prepare the NFC West champion Rams (11-4) for the playoffs.

Los Angeles has clinched a first-round home playoff game, but can’t earn a top-two seed and a postseason bye.

Chiefs: First-round draft pick Patrick Mahomes II will make his NFL debut at quarterback for Kansas City when it plays an otherwise meaningless game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said that the former Texas Tech star would start in Denver.

Buccaneers: Police investigating a singlecar accident found marijuana and hollow point bullets in an abandoned vehicle registered to Tampa Bay receiver Desean Jackson. No arrests have been made, and the report said “it is unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.”

Dolphins: Even though Jay Cutler says he made a good decision to come out of retirement, he may be headed there again soon.

Cutler will start in the finale to the Miami Dolphins’ disappointing season Sunday against Buffalo, and he said he hasn’t decided whether to play a 13th NFL season in 2018.

Browns: Cleveland coach Hue Jackson has no doubt he’ll back next year despite a 1-30 record over the past two seasons.

In his strongest statement to date, Jackson said he “unequivocally believes without question” that owner Jimmy Haslam will keep his word and not fire him following Sunday’s finale in Pittsburgh.

Giants: A day after Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins referred to him as a cancer, cornerback Eli Apple was suspended by

New York for the season finale against the Washington Redskins.
