Blueitt helps No. 6 Xavier win Big East opener vs. Marquette

MADISON, Wis. — Trevon Blueitt had 23 points, J.P. Macura scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and No. 6 Xavier beat Marquette 9187 on Wednesday night to survive a road test in its Big East opener.

Tyrique Jones added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting before fouling out for Xavier (13-1, 1-0), which won its eighth straight game. Andrew Rowsey led the Golden Eagles (94, 0-1) with 31 points.

At Chicago, Mikal Bridges scored 20 points, Phil Booth added 17 points and six assists, and No. 1 Villanova (13-0, 1-0 Big East) beat Depaul (7-6, 0-1).

At Fresno, Calif., Kendall Stephens scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and Caleb Martin had a double-double to help UNR (12-3, 1-0 Mountain West) beat Fresno State (10-4, 0-1).

At Albuquerqu­e, N.M., Joe Furstinger dropped his third consecutiv­e double-double and five other New Mexico players reached double figures as the Lobos (6-8, 1-0 Mountain West) beat Air Force (6-7, 0-1).

At Laramie, Wyo., Hayden Dalton scored 19 of his career-high 36 points in the second half to help Wyoming (10-4, 1-0 Mountain West) beat San Diego State (8-4, 0-1).

At Boise, Idaho, Chandler Hutchison scored 24 points and Boise State (11-2, 1-0 Mountain West) never trailed in beating Colorado
