Giants get EX-MVP Mccutchen for righty Crick, prospect, cash
The San Francisco Giants acquired five-time All-star outfielder Andrew Mccutchen from the Pittsburgh Pirates for right-hander Kyle Crick, minor league outfielder Bryan Reynolds and $500,000 in international signing bonus allocation.
Mccutchen, 31, the 2013 National League MVP, batted .279 with 28 home runs in 88 RBIS in 2017. He is entering the final season of a six-year, $51.5 million contract.
Crick, 25, had a 3.06 ERA, 28 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings and a .191 opponents’ batting average last year in his first big league season. Reynolds, 22, a switch hitter, batted .312 at Class-a San Jose in 2017.
■ Pirates: Closer Felipe Rivero, 26, who had a 1.67 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings last season, agreed to a four-year, $22 million contract extension with Pittsburgh, with club options for 2022 and 2023.
■ Blue Jays: Outfielder Curtis Granderson, 36, a 14-year major league veteran who hit 26 home runs last season, agreed to a oneyear, $5 million contract plus incentives with Toronto, pending a physical.
■ Twins: Four-time All-star first baseman Justin Morneau, 36, the 2006 American League MVP, announced his retirement and will work in Minnesota’s front office as a special assistant.
■ Nationals: Utility player Howie Kendrick, 34, a .291 hitter over 12 major league seasons, agreed to a two-year, $7 million contract with Washington, pending a physical.
■ Cardinals: Eight-time All-star catcher Yadier Molina, 35, said he plans to retire after his contract runs out following the 2020 season.
■ Obit: Doug Harvey, a National League umpire from 1962 to 1992 and an 18-year crew chief, died Saturday of natural causes in hospice care. He was 87.
