Cormier to battle Miocic for UFC heavyweight belt in July
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will move back up to heavyweight to challenge Stipe Miocic for the belt on July 7 at T-mobile Arena, UFC officials said. The champions will coach against each other on the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” before meeting for Miocic’s belt at UFC 226.
Miocic, 35, became the first UFC heavyweight champion to successfully defend the title three consecutive times when he won a unanimous decision over Francis Ngannou on Saturday in Boston.
Cormier, 38, retained the light heavyweight title on the same card with a second-round stoppage of Francis Ngannou.
Season 27 of “TUF” will begin filming in Las Vegas soon and debut on Fox Sports 1 on April 18.
Baseball: The players’ union expressed concern to MLB that the Miami Marlins and Pittsburgh Pirates are not spending revenue-sharing proceeds to improve play. The commissioner’s office responded by saying it is not worried about any violations.
Hockey: Buffalo Sabres defenseman Zach Bogosian, 27, will miss the rest of the season after it was determined his nagging hip injury requires surgery. The 10th-year NHL veteran is expected to be recovered for the start of training camp.

Soccer: David Beckham and his partners announced plans for a news conference Monday to make “an important announcement on the future of soccer in Miami.” MLS will stream the event live on its website.
