Temple goes overtime to post win over No. 16 Wichita State

PHILADELPH­IA — Wichita State’s first season in the American Athletic Conference has hit a rough patch.

Obi Enechionyi­a hit two free throws with 18.1 seconds left in overtime, and Temple handed the 16th-ranked Shockers their third loss in five games with an 81-79 victory on Thursday. Moving from the Missouri Valley Conference, Wichita State (17-5, 7-3) is playing new teams in unfamiliar arenas and getting its opponents’ best shot.

Quinton Rose scored 19 points for the Owls (12-10, 4-6). Josh Brown added 15 and helped hold Shockers top scorer Landry Shamet to 12 points on 3-for-9 shooting with six turnovers.

How much did it mean to Temple to knock off a ranked opponent for the 11th straight year? Fans stormed the court after Markis Mcduffie’s 3-point shot clanged off the rim and the ball caromed into the backcourt as time expired.

Shizz Alston Jr. shook off 5-for22 shooting for Temple to score 12 points, including the tying bucket with 6.8 seconds left in regulation.

At Philadelph­ia, Mikal Bridges scored 21 points for the Wildcats (21-1, 8-1 Big East), who tied a program record with 19 3-pointers. Marcus Foster led the Bluejays (17-6, 7-4) with 20 points.

At Spokane, Wash., Johnathan Williams had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs (20-4, 10-1 West Coast Conference), who held the Toreros (15-8, 6-5) to 33-percent shooting.

Washington 68, No. 25 Arizona State 64 —

At Seattle, Noah Dickerson had 21 points and 16 rebounds for the Huskies (16-6, 6-3 Pac-12), who held the Sun Devils (16-6, 4-6) to a season-low point total.
