Jazz stay hot, thwart Spurs

Mitchell soars in 10th straight win

SALT LAKE CITY — Donovan Mitchell scored 25 points, including a go-ahead pull-up jumper with 39.2 seconds left, as the Utah Jazz extended their league-best win streak to 10 games with a 101-99 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.

Mitchell hit two go-ahead baskets and a free throw to give the Jazz the lead in the final minute after they trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Joe Ingles added 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists and Derrick Favors had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Jazz (29-28), who moved above .500 for the first time in more than two months.

Kyle Anderson had 16 points and Pau Gasol 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Spurs, who lost to Utah for the third time this season.

San Antonio went ahead 8370 on a pull-up jumper by Bryn Forbes with 9:29 left. The Jazz chipped away before Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 87 with 4:53 left.

The teams traded baskets from there until Mitchell sealed it in the final minute.

Utah used a 20-4 run in the second quarter to take its largest first-half lead at 54-42. San Antonio cut its deficit in half before intermissi­on on layups by Gasol and Anderson.

In the third quarter, the Spurs used an 11-1 run to go back in front. Davis Bertans buried a 3-pointer to put San Antonio up 66-61.

At Oakland, Calif., Stephen Curry had 22 points and Omri Casspi 19 points and 10 rebounds for Golden State, which handed Phoenix its sixth straight loss and fourth setback by more than 40 points this season.

At Philadelph­ia, Dario Saric had 24 points and reserve T.J. Mcconnell 10 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds for Philadelph­ia, which won its fourth straight and dealt New York its seventh loss in a row.

At Chicago, Zach Lavine had a tiebreakin­g dunk after stealing an inbounds pass in the closing seconds for Chicago, which recovered after blowing an 18-point fourth-quarter lead. At New York, Lou Williams had 20 points and Deandre Jordan 16 points and 17 rebounds for Los Angeles, which shot 56.5 percent in handing Brooklyn its sixth straight loss.

At Detroit, Anthony Davis had 38 points and 10 rebounds for New Orleans, which beat Detroit for the 11th time in the teams’ past 12 meetings.
