Ban, UNLV men’s golfers still lead 20-team event in Hawaii
UNLV senior Shintaro Ban shot 4-under-par 68 for an 11-under 133 total and a threestroke lead, helping the Rebels pace the 20team John Burns Intercollegiate at 21-under 555 after two rounds in Lihue, Hawaii.
Harry Hall is tied for fourth in the 122-player field at 6-under 138, and Jack Trent and Garrick Higgo are tied for 20th at 142. Texas A&M is second, six strokes behind UNLV.
UNLV softball: At Eller Media Stadium, freshman Samantha Diaz hit a tying threerun homer in the seventh inning, and Brooke Stover hit a walk-off RBI single in the eighth to rally the Rebels to a 6-5 win over Buffalo (1-4) in the Marucci Desert Classic. In the first game for UNLV (6-1), Justine Federe hit a tworun double in the Rebels’ four-run second in their 5-3 win over Idaho State (0-2).
UNLV baseball: At Wilson Stadium, Bryson Stott tripled in the 10th and scored on Dillon Johnson’s bunt single to rally the Rebels (1-0) to a 5-4 win over Indiana State (0-1) in the Marucci Desert Classic. Kyle Isbel hit a tying two-run homer in the eighth for UNLV.
UNLV football: The Rebels will hire San Diego defensive coordinator Steve Irvin as cornerbacks coach. A native Las Vegan, Irvin played at UNLV in 1997 and 1998. Also, wide receiver Tyleek Collins, a three-star prospect by 247Sports, tweeted he’s committed to the Rebels.
UNLV women’s swimming and diving:
At San Antonio, Sofia Carnevale won the 100yard breaststroke in a program-record 59.87 seconds, helping the Rebels to sixth place enteringthefinaldayofthemountainwest Championships.
UNLV men’s tennis: At Fertitta Tennis Complex, Alexandr Cozbinov and Eric Samuelsson each won in singles and were part of a doubles victory for the Rebels (4-4) in their 4-3 loss to San Diego State (1-6) in both teams’ Mountain West opener.
UNLV women’s tennis: At Fertitta
Tennis Complex, Aiwen Zhu, En-pei Huang and Anna Bogoslavets each won in singles and contributed to a doubles victory in leading the Rebels (7-3) to a 4-1 triumph over Arizona (6-2).
CSN baseball: At Morse Stadium, Nick Hernandez went 7-for-9 with seven RBIS to lead College of Southern Nevada (11-4) to wins over Okanagan (1-9-1) by scores of 8-2 and 10-2 in the Coyote Slugout.
