Red Sox reel in J.D. Martinez with five-year, $110M contract

Free-agent slugger J.D. Martinez agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, pending a physical.

Martinez, 30, reportedly will make $50 million in the first two years and $72 million in the first three, with opt-out clauses after the second and third years.

Martinez hit .303 with 45 homers and 104 RBIS last year for Detroit and Arizona. He had 29 homers and 65 RBIS in 62 games with the Diamondbac­ks.

He started 112 games in right field last year but figures to be Boston’s primary designated hitter.

Nationals: Right-handed reliever Joaquin Benoit agreed to a one-year, $1 million deal, pending a physical, with Washington. Benoit, 40, has a 3.83 ERA and 1,058 strikeouts in 1,068 2/3 innings over 16 seasons with eight teams.

Braves: Right-handed reliever Peter Moylan, 39, agreed to a one-year deal with Atlanta that will be worth $1.25 million if he makes the Braves’ Opening Day roster. The Australian has 3.00 ERA in 11 major league seasons with three teams.

Diamondbac­ks: Outfielder Jarrod Dyson agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million deal with Arizona. Dyson, 33, has hit .258 with 204 stolen bases in eight seasons, including seven with Kansas City.

Orioles: Right-hander Chris Tillman agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract, plus performanc­e bonuses, with Baltimore. Tillman, 29, is 73-55 with a 4.43 ERA in nine seasons, all with Baltimore.
