Davis’ power, points push Pelicans to win

NEW ORLEANS — Anthony Davis’ authoritat­ive put-back dunk in the final minutes summed up a night on which his relentless play around the basket forced Phoenix’s three tallest players to foul out.

Davis scored a season-high 53 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and blocked five shots, and the New Orleans Pelicans extended their win streak to six with a 125-116 victory over the hapless Phoenix Suns on Monday.

“Thank you, Anthony, for carrying us,” Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday said. “Look at his numbers, man. He’s something else.”

Davis has scored no fewer than 27 points in a game during New Orleans’ streak, scoring at least 38 five times and more than 40 four times.

After the 6-foot-10-inch Davis hit his 21st free throw, the Suns had to guard the Pelicans’ All-star power forward with 6-8 small forward Josh Jackson because 7-footers Dragan Bender and Alex Len and 6-10 Marquese Chriss had fouled out with nearly five minutes to play.

At Salt Lake City, James Harden scored 26 points for Houston, which benefited from 22 turnovers in its 13th straight victory.

At New York, Stephen Curry scored 14 of his 21 points in the third quarter for Golden State, which trailed by one at halftime.

At Toronto, Demar Derozan and Kyle Lowry scored 20 points each for Toronto, which won for the seventh time in eight games.

At New York, Alan Crabbe scored 21 points for Brooklyn, which halted an eightgame slide and dealt Chicago its fourth straight loss.

At Atlanta, Brandon Ingram had 21 points and 10 rebounds, leading nine Los Angeles scorers in double figures.

Thunder At Oklahoma City, Paul George scored 26 points for Oklahoma City, which handed Orlando its sixth loss in a row.

At Boston, Kyrie Irving scored 25 points for Boston, which dealt Memphis its 10th consecutiv­e loss.

At Dallas, Harrison Barnes had 21 points for Dallas, which halted a fourgame skid and stopped Indiana’s four-game win streak.

At Sacramento, Calif., Karl-anthony Towns had 26 points and 17 rebounds for Minnesota, which made 33 of 36 free throws.
