Man struck by semi, dragged for half mile

A man was found dead on a

North Las Vegas freeway onramp Friday after he was hit by a semitruck and dragged nearly a half-mile.

The man was found about 2 a.m., when North Las Vegas police received a call reporting a body on the northbound Interstate 15 onramp at Lake Mead Boulevard, according to North Las Vegas police spokesman Aaron Patty. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined he had been struck in an Arco gas station parking lot at 2001 Las Vegas Blvd. North and dragged westbound on Lake Mead Boulevard to I-15 before coming free on the on-ramp.

Police investigated the incident as a hit-and-run but later found the truck and its 36-year-old driver near Craig Road and Lamb Boulevard, about 5 miles from the gas station.

As of Friday afternoon, police said the driver was not facing charges in connection with the accident. Patty said detectives determined alcohol and speed were not factors.

I-15 was closed for several hours Friday morning while police investigated and worked to clean the crash site.

The man’s death marked the 10th fatal crash North Las Vegas police have investigated in 2018. He will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office after his family has been notified.
