Huizenga, founder/owner of Marlins, Panthers, dies
H. Wayne Huizenga, the founding owner of baseball’s Florida Marlins and the NHL’S Florida Panthers, died Thursday at his Fort Lauderdale home after a bout with cancer. He was 80.
Huizenga built a business empire that included Blockbuster Entertainment and Autonation. He also owned the NFL’S Miami Dolphins from 1994 to 2009.
Hockey: Dick Gamble, a Stanley Cup champion with the Montreal Canadiens and an American Hockey League Hall of Famer, died Thursday at his home in Pittsford, New York. He was 89.
Soccer: The United States remained atop the FIFA women’s rankings after winning the Shebelieves Cup, and England moved ahead of Germany into second.
Figure skating: At Assago, Italy, Olympic bronze medalist Katelyn Osmond, 22, ended a 45-year women’s world title drought for Canada.
