Red Sox’s Wright accepts domestic violence penalty

-

Boston pitcher Steven Wright accepted a 15-game suspension under MLB’S domestic violence policy following his Dec. 8 arrest.

Wright, 33, publicly apologized to his wife, Shannon, after the penalty was announced. The right-hander also said he has “taken steps, including counseling sessions, to help me become a better husband.”

A knuckeballer, Wright was an All-star in 2016, when he went 13-6 with a 3.33 ERA, but was limited to five starts last year by a left knee injury that required surgery May 8.

He has not pitched in a major league spring training game this year, and it is not clear whether he will start the season on the DL.
