Canucks’ Sedin twins announce retirement

Vancouver Canucks forwards Henrik and Daniel Sedin announced they will retire at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old twins are in their 17th season in the NHL, all with Vancouver. They led the Canucks to within one game of winning the 2011 Stanley Cup.

Selected second and third overall at the 1999 draft after the Canucks made a series of trades to grab both brothers, the Sedins have been the faces of the franchise for more than a decade.

Two likely Hall of Famers when their numbers are eventually called, Henrik Sedin has 1,068 points (240 goals, 828 assists) in 1,327 regular-season games, while Daniel Sedin has 1,038 points

(391 goals, 647 assists) in 1,303 outings.

Blues: St. Louis forward Scottie Upshall is out indefinite­ly with a lacerated left kidney.

Upshall was injured Saturday in a 6-0 loss to the Arizona Coyotes. The 34-year-old has seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 63 games. Upshall was playing in just his second game after missing three weeks with a knee injury.

Wild: Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter has a broken right ankle that will require surgery and end his season, right before the start of the playoffs. and swatted a Big Ten-best 3.03 shots per game. The forward averaged 10.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and made nearly 40 percent of the 96 3-pointers he attempted.

Other players declaring for the draft Monday were Clemson’s Marcquise Reed and Shelton Mitchell, Miami’s Dewan Huell and Penn State’s Tony Carr.

Connecticu­t women’s forward Azura Stevens also announced she was giving up her last year of eligibilit­y to enter the WNBA draft.
