York, Adam Jones hit a go-ahead tworun homer in Baltimore’s five-run seventh inning, and Andrew Cashner (1-1) held
New York to one run — a homer by Aaron Judge in the sixth — on two hits and struck out five over six innings.
Tigers 9, White Sox 7 — At Chicago, Niko Goodrum hit a two-run homer in a three-run ninth for Detroit after replacing injured Miguel Cabrera (left hip flexor tightness), and the Tigers scored twice in the 10th on a slow roller by Leonys Martin and an RBI single by Jeimer Candelario.
Rangers 6, Athletics 3 — At Oakland, Calif., Adrian Beltre singled and doubled for Texas to become the career hits leader among Latin-born players with 3,055. The crowd of 10,132 was the largest of the series that attracted 34,613 total for four games.
Rockies 3, Padres 1 — At San Diego, Ryan Mcmahon drew a four-pitch, basesloaded walk off All-star closer Brad Hand (0-2) to break a scoreless tie in the ninth inning, and DJ Lemahieu added a two-run single for Colorado. Manuel Margot hit a leadoff homer in the ninth off Wade Davis, who posted his fourth save.
Pirates 5, Reds 2 — At Pittsburgh, Gregory Polanco hit a go-ahead two-run homer during Pittsburgh’s four-run fifth inning and had a sacrifice fly in the third, and Steven Brault (2-0) held Cincinnati to one run on three hits and four walks over five innings in his first start of the season.
Cubs 8, Brewers 0 — At Milwaukee, Jon Lester (1-0) blanked Milwaukee on three hits and struck out six over six innings. Brewers star closer Corey Knebel exited with a hamstring injury while getting work in the ninth and likely will be placed on the disabled list, manager Craig Counsell said.
Phillies 5, Marlins 0 — At Philadelphia, Maikel Franco homered, tripled, singled and drove in four runs to back Nick Pivetta (1-0), who allowed four hits and no walks and struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings, as Philadelphia won its home opener for the first time since 2011.
