Readers help to locate old-fashioned farina

-

OLD-FASHIONED farina cereal is one of those comfort foods that are great for bringing back childhood memories, but it’s also one of those things that have all but disappeared from stores. So it appears his fellow Taste of the Town readers have good news for Danny Calico, who’s looking for it. David Howard reported finding at Smart & Final at 1941 N. Decatur Blvd. And Darlene Donoghue-anekwe said it’s available at stores specializing in Indian foods, including Gopal Indian Market at 5006 S. Maryland Parkway, where it’s called soji.

For Chuck Liefert, who’s looking for Sabrett Pushcart Style Onions in Sauce, Barbara Snyder emailed that they’re available in jars on Amazon, and that foil-wrapped packages of the onions are available at jerseyporkroll.com (866-465-7675). I also spotted the foil-wrapped packages at thetaylorhamman.com (973-6718426).

For Bobbie Madonna, who’s looking for Chinese black garlic sauce, there may be two possibilities: William Raley found Lee Kum Kee black bean garlic sauce at Greenland Supermarket in the Korea Town Mall at 6850 W. Spring Mountain Road, and I spotted Williams-sonoma Shiitake Black Garlic Short Rib Japanese Braising Sauce at williams-sonoma.com.
