Pirates’ Harrison to have examinatio­n on left hand

Pittsburgh second baseman Josh Harrison will undergo further evaluation Monday after leaving the Pirates’ 7-3 win at Miami when he was hit on the left hand by a 96-mph fastball from Jose Urena.

The Pirates’ leadoff hitter, Harrison is batting .263 with one home run and five RBIS and has scored 12 runs.

Harrison missed the final month of 2017 after being hit by a pitch on the same hand. He was hit 23 times last year to rank second in the majors.

Righthande­r Taijuan Walker (right forearm inflammati­on) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and right-handed reliever Silvino Bracho was recalled from Triple-a Reno. Walker will undergo an MRI examinatio­n Monday, but the strength tests that he underwent Saturday have the organizati­on feeling optimistic that in the injury is not serious.

Corner infielder/outfielder Renato Nunez was claimed off waivers from Oakland, and right-hander Tim Lincecum (blister) was transferre­d to the 60-day disabled list. Nunez, 24, hit .249 with 32 home runs and 78 RBIS in 126 games with Triple-a Nashville last season.

Outfielder Ben Gamel (right oblique strain) will be activated from the disabled list Monday, and catcher Mike Zunino (right oblique strain) is expected to play three rehabilita­tion games with High-a Modesto starting Monday.

Center fielder Kevin Kiermaier injured his right thumb while sliding in Tampa Bay’s loss to Philadelph­ia and will undergo an MRI examinatio­n Monday. Manager Kevin Cash expects him to miss “a chunk” of time.

Left-hander Drew Pomeranz (left forearm strain) was deemed ready to make his season debut Friday after throwing 86 pitches over 5 1/3 innings in a rehabilita­tion start with Double-a Portland on April 13.

Second baseman/third baseman Logan Forsythe (right shoulder inflammati­on) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and utility player Breyvic Valera was recalled from Triple-a Oklahoma City.

First baseman/ outfielder Eric Thames is considered day to day after leaving in the third inning of Milwaukee’s loss at New York with a mild left adductor strain.

Right-hander

Luis Cessa was optioned to Scranton/wilkes-barre, and outfielder Shane Robinson was outrighted to the Triple-a club.
