Jed Lowrie and Matt Joyce homered for Oakland, which roughed up former A’s ace Sonny Gray (2-3) for five runs on nine hits and three walks over five innings, leaving New York with back-to-back losses for the first time since April 10.

Royals 10, Indians 9 — At Cleveland, Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer off Andrew Miller (1-1) on the day the ace left-handed reliever was activated from the disabled list to rally Kansas City, which overcame a 9-4 deficit. Michael Brantley hit a grand slam for Cleveland.

Rangers 1, Astros 0 — At Houston, Cole Hamels (2-4) blanked Houston on one hit, three walks and two hit-batsmen over six innings to outduel Justin Verlander (42), who gave up one run on three hits and struck out seven over six innings.

Orioles 9, Rays 4 — At Baltimore, Manny Machado hit a grand slam and a two-run homer to back Kevin Gausman (3-2), who held Tampa Bay to two runs despite allowing 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings, as Baltimore won its third straight and dealt the Rays their fourth straight loss.

Twins 5, Angels 4 — At Anaheim, Calif., Eddie Rosario homered twice, including a leadoff shot in Minnesota’s three-run ninth, and former Angels catcher Bobby Wilson drove in the decisive run with a sacrifice fly.
