UNLV softball claims NISC regional opener
Brooke Stover, Alyssa Navarro, Myranda Bueno and Janine Petmecky knocked in runs, and the UNLV softball team defeated Weber State 4-1 in its opener at the National Invitational Softball Championship regional at Eller Media Stadium.
Petmecky also went the distance in the circle, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts.
In other games at the regional, Weber State defeated Utah Valley 14-7, and UC Riverside beat UNR 10-0. The regional continues Thursday, including UNLV taking on Riverside at 6 p.m.
Also, UNLV landed three players on the Mountain West all-conference teams. Petmecky, a senior pitcher/ outfielder, and freshman first baseman Mia Trejo were tabbed first-team selections, while sophomore outfielder Reina Bondi was selected to the second team.
Golf: The wife of former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover made the first call to 911 and claimed she was attacked by her mother-inlaw, according to a tape of the call released Wednesday that provided another bizarre twist in the wife’s arrest on a domestic violence charge.
Glover answered when the St. John’s Sheriff’s Office in Florida called back, and said his wife was lying.
Krista Glover was arrested Saturday night and taken to the
St. John’s County jail. She was released Sunday on a $2,500 bond and faces misdemeanor charges of domestic violence battery and resisting arrest without violence.

College basketball: Hall of Fame and three-time national championship coach Jim Calhoun, 76, said he expects to coach at the tiny Division III University of Saint Joseph in the fall, but still has some contractual issues with Connecticut to work out before that can be possible.
