Syndergaard lands on DL with soreness in right index finger

-

The New York Mets placed right-hander

Noah Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list with a sore right index finger.

The move Tuesday is retroactive to May 26, and he likely will miss one start because of the strained ligament.

Syndergaard is 4-1 with a 3.06 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings as one of the Mets’ aces, along with Jacob degrom. Syndergaard last pitched Friday night in a loss at Atlanta.

The Mets now have 11 players on the DL, including such regulars as outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, third baseman Todd Frazier, and catcher Travis d’arnaud.

Cubs: MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre informed Chicago and Pittsburgh that Anthony Rizzo’s slide that upended Pirates catcher Elias Diaz at home plate should have been called for interference.

Diaz’s throw ended up sailing into right field, allowing two runs to score in the eighth inning oc the Cubs’ 7-0 victory on Monday. The Pirates challenged the call on the field but replay officials opted not to overturn it.

Indians: Cleveland pitcher Andrew Miller visited a specialist in New York to have his injured left knee examined.

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said there’s no indication at this point that Miller will need surgery. Miller was placed on the 10-day DL on Saturday with inflammation in the knee.

Astros: Houston catcher Brian Mccann, in a 1-for-26 slide that has dropped his batting average to .219, was put on the 10-day DL because of right knee soreness and returned to Houston to be examined.

Mccann has been dealing with the issue and felt it more during Monday’s game, manager

A.J. Hinch said. The 34-year-old Mccann was a seven-time All-star with Atlanta from 2005-13.
