Mariners 5, Rays 4 — At St. Petersburg, Fla., Mike Leake (6-3) took a 5-1 lead into the ninth, ultimately allowing two runs, and Mitch Haniger homered and drove in three runs for first-place Seattle. Bishop Gorman product Johnny Field hit a three-run double in the ninth off former Tampa Bay closer Alex Colome.

Astros 5, Rangers 2 — At Arlington, Texas, Evan Gattis hit a two-run homer and an RBI single to back Gerrit Cole (71), who allowed one run on three singles and struck out eight over six innings.

Cole Hamels (3-6) didn’t allow a hit until Alex Bregman’s double in the fourth, and Bregman later homered.

Tigers 7, Red Sox 2 — At Boston, Leonys Martin hit a two-run homer to cap a five-run first off Jalen Beeks (0-1) in the left-hander’s major league debut. Matthew Boyd (4-4) overcame three wild pitches to hold Boston to two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Blue Jays 5, Orioles 4 — At Toronto, Aledmys Diaz hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th after Toronto erased a threerun deficit in the ninth off Brad Brach, who had a streak of 10 straight scoreless outings. Austin Wynns, Danny Valencia and Mark Trumbo homered for Baltimore.

Twins7,whitesox2— At Minneapoli­s, Jose Berrios (7-5) pitched a six-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in his second complete game this season, backed by home runs from Eduardo Escobar, Eddie Rosario and Ehire Adrianza off James Shields (1-7).

Athletics 4, Royals 1 — At Oakland, Calif., Matt Chapman doubled in the go-ahead run in the sixth to back Paul Blackburn (1-0), who held Kansas City to one run on three hits and induced 11 groundouts over six innings in his season debut.
