Cabrera injures tendon in biceps
Miguel Cabrera ruptured his left biceps tendon Tuesday, an injury that will sideline the Detroit slugger for the rest of the season.
The two-time AL MVP will have surgery this week, the Tigers said. Cabrera, playing his 12th game since missing 26 with a hamstring strain, exited in the third inning of Detroit’s 6-4 loss to Minnesota and underwent an MRI during the game.
Rays: Tampa Bay right-hander Chris Archer has no timetable for when he will throw off a mound again and could be sidelined through the All-star break.
Archer has been on the 10-day disabled list since June 3 with a left abdominal strain. He felt discomfort after a 22-pitch mound session Saturday.
Blue Jays: It’s likely to be more than a year between Troy Tulowitzki’s appearances in a major league game, but the All-star shortstop of the Toronto Blue Jays said he can honestly say for the first time in a while he feels like he’s headed in the right direction.
The 33-year-old Tulowitzki had surgery April 2 to remove bone spurs from both heels.
He’s just getting back to the point of taking ground balls, hitting and starting to run in the outfield. He last appeared in a game on July 28, 2017.
Yankees: Pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga will be brought up from Double-a by New York to make his major league debut against Tampa Bay on Thursday.
Loaisiga is a 23-yearold right-hander who returned in 2016 following Tommy John surgery. He is 3-1 with a 4.32 ERA in six starts at Double-a Trenton after starting 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA at Class A Tampa.
