Red Sox 9, Twins 2 — At Minneapoli­s, Rick Porcello (9-3) allowed one hit — a first-inning single by Logan Morrison — over seven shutout innings, retiring his final 16 batters, in helping Boston avoid a series sweep. Xander Bogaerts and Andrew Benintendi drove in two runs apiece for the Red Sox, who had a season-high 16 hits.

Angels 8, Blue Jays 5 — At Anaheim, Calif., Luis Valbuena homered twice for Los Angeles, and Noe Ramirez (3-3) pitched 2 2/3 perfect innings of relief after emergency starter John Lamb was knocked out in the fourth. Tyler Skaggs (tight right hamstring) was scratched from his scheduled outing.

Diamondbac­ks 9, Pirates 3 — At Pittsburgh, Ketel Marte and Alex Avila each hit a two-run homer to back Zack Godley (8-5), who won his third straight start, as Arizona built an 8-0 lead after three innings. Jon Jay doubled in each of the first two innings, upping his batting average to .340 in 13 games with the Diamondbac­ks.

Giants 3, Padres 0 — At San Francisco, Madison Bumgarner (1-2) allowed three hits and struck out eight over eight shutout innings and drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly, and Mark Melancon posted his first save of the season as San Francisco won its third straight and dealt San Diego its fifth loss in a row.

Reds6,cubs2— At Cincinnati, Jesse Winker hit his first career grand slam off reliever Randy Rosario, who hadn’t allowed a home run this season, in Cincinnati’s sixrun sixth to back Matt Harvey (2-5), who allowed two runs over six innings, as the Reds won their fourth straight.

Brewers 11, Cardinals 3 — At Milwaukee, Brent Suter (8-4) found a groove after allowing a home run to Matt Carpenter on his first pitch, holding St. Louis to two runs on two hits over seven innings, and Manny Pina homered for Milwaukee, which benefited from four St. Louis errors.

Rockies 6, Mets 4 — At Denver, Nolan Arenado homered for the third straight game, doubled and totaled five RBIS, and Kyle Freeland (7-6) held New York to two runs over six innings, marking the 10th time in his past 11 starts that he has pitched at least six innings.

Nationals 4, Orioles 2 — At Washington, Juan Soto hit a tiebreakin­g two-run double in the eighth for Washington, which took two of three in the series. Max Scherzer held Baltimore to two runs — homers by Colby Rasmus and Mark Trumbo — and struck out nine over seven innings.
