Change-up: Kershaw to come off DL to face Mets, degrom

-

Clayton Kershaw is set to make a surprise return from the disabled list Saturday, starting for the Los Angeles Dodgers against New York Mets ace Jacob degrom.

Kershaw has been sidelined since June 1 with a lower back strain. The three-time Cy Young Award winner was to make a rehabilitation start Saturday for Triple-a Oklahoma City at Omaha, but rain in the forecast caused the Dodgers to change plans.

Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw will be limited, with rookie left-hander Caleb Ferguson ready in reserve. Ferguson, 21, had been slated to start Saturday.

Nationals: Right fielder Bryce Harper, second in voting among National League outfielders behind Atlanta right fielder Nick Markakis for the All-star Game, said he will participate in the Home Run Derby if he makes the NL All-star team. The Las Vegas native, who last participated in the derby in 2013, entered play Friday leading the NL in home runs (19) and walks (55). The All-star Game is slated for July 17 at Nationals Park.

Blue Jays: Closer Roberto Osuna was suspended for 75 games without pay for violating the league’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. The suspension is retroactive to his arrest date of May 8, which means the All-star right-hander will be ineligible to return until Aug. 4. His next scheduled court date is July 9; he plans to plead not guilty.

Braves: Right-hander Mike Soroka (inflamed right shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, outfielder Danny Santana’s contract was purchased from Triple-a Gwinnett, and righthanded reliever Jose Ramirez (right shoulder impingement) was transferred to the 60-day DL.

White Sox: Right fielder Avisail Garcia (right hamstring strain) and utility player Leury Garcia (left knee sprain) were activated from the disabled list, infielder Jose Rondon was optioned to Triple-a Charlotte, and outfielder Trayce Thompson was designated for assignment.

Marlins: Right-hander Jose Urena (right shoulder impingement) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and right-handed reliever Nick Wittgren (right finger contusion) was activated from the DL.
