Man arrested in slaying, with bail set at $1 million

-

North Las Vegas police made an arrest in the deadly shooting of a 39-year-old man this month.

Kerry Brock Sr., 42, was taken into custody Tuesday on the 2100 block of Venus Street, less than a half-mile from the scene of the slaying, police said.

Brock faces one count of murder with a deadly weapon in the death of Darvious Alexander of Las Vegas. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County coroner.

Officers responded to a call just before 11 p.m. July 8 on the 21oo block of East Cheyenne Avenue, where they found Alexander suffering from gunshot wounds. Police determined that the shooting happened on the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive after two men got into an argument, the department said.

Brock is being held at the Las Vegas Detention Center on $1 million bail, records show.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 8. Whiting suffered “extremely severe facial damage” in the attack Saturday in San Leandro.

Division Chief Alan Evans said Whiting required extensive reconstructive surgery.

Fire officials said firefighters rescued a 15-year-old girl and 18 dogs from the two-story house. Two other dogs in the basement died.

Oneoftherescueddogs, amalepit bull, lunged at Whiting while he was questioning the girl. Evans said that she was holding the dog’s leash but was unable to restrain him.

The dogs were turned over to animal control.
