Thomas selected to watch list for nation’s top running back

UNLV senior Lexington Thomas was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list, an honor that goes to the nation’s top running back.

He rushed for 1,336 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. Thomas needs 1,250 to move past Tim Cornett, who gained 3,733 yards from 2010 to 2013, into first place on UNLV’S alltime rushing list.

Men’s basketball: Senior Shakur Juiston was named to the National Associatio­n of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, which recognizes academic achievemen­t. Those selected must be a junior or senior academical­ly and carry at least a 3.2 GPA and have completed at least one season at the school. Juiston averaged

14.6 points and 10.0 rebounds last season. charged with assault, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal trespassin­g after reportedly being denied use of a hotel restroom while appearing to be intoxicate­d.

Colts: Defensive end Chris Mccain pleaded not guilty to two counts of battery in Los Angeles related to an alleged incident with a woman on Jan. 7 in which he is accused of spitting on her and grabbing her by the neck. His pretrial hearing is on Aug. 21.

Saints: Shane Vereen, 29, who spent his first four NFL seasons with New England and the past three with the New York Giants, signed with New Orleans, which released fellow running back Daniel Lasco, 25, with a failed-physical designatio­n.

Titans: Defensive tackle Jurrell Casey said he plans to protest the NFL’S new national anthem policy, requiring players to stand or remain in the locker room, and deal with the potential consequenc­es.

Steelers: Wide receiver Antonio Brown, one of seven players with a perfect 99 rating in “Madden 19,” was named the video game’s cover athlete, EA Sports said.
