Buffalo lands Skinner in swap with Carolina

The Buffalo Sabres acquired left wing Jeff Skinner from the Carolina Hurricanes for a prospect and three draft picks.

Skinner, 26, the NHL’S rookie of the year in 2011, is a threetime 30-goal scorer coming off a season in which he had 24 goals and 49 points in 82 games.

Carolina received right wing Cliff Pu, 20, who completed his Canadian Junior eligibilit­y this year, along with a second-round draft pick in 2019 and third- and sixth-round picks in 2020.

Flames: Alternate captain Troy Brouwer was placed on unconditio­nal waivers with the intention of having the remaining two years of his four-year, $18 million contract being bought out. The 32-year-old right wing had six goals and 22 points in 76 games last season.

Avalanche: Defenseman Patrik Nemeth, 26, who had a team-high 185 blocked shots in a career-high 68 games last season, was brought back by Colorado with a one-year, $2.5 million deal.

Flyers: Defenseman Robert Hagg, 23, who had 100 blocked shots while averaging 18 minutes of ice time over 70 games last season, stayed with Philadelph­ia on a two-year, $2.3 million deal. center Chinanu Onuaku from Houston for the rights to forward Maarty Leunen. Onuaku, 21, has averaged 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in six games. Leunen, 32, has been playing profession­ally in Turkey, Italy and Germany.
