Durango grad Pham out with broken foot

Newly acquired outfielder Tommy Pham was placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays because of a broken right foot.

The 30-yearold Durango High School product was hit on the foot by a pitch from Los Angeles Angels left-hander Andrew Heaney on Thursday.

Tampa Bay obtained Pham and $500,000 in internatio­nal signing bonus allocation Tuesday from St. Louis for three minor leaguers.

Tampa Bay also recalled righthande­d reliever Adam Kolarek from Triple-a Durham.

Indians: Left-handed reliever Andrew Miller (inflamed right knee) was activated from the disabled list, and righthande­d reliever Zach Mcallister was designated for assignment. Also, outfielder Tyler Naquin underwent right hip surgery and is expected to resume baseball activities in six to 10 weeks.

Reds: Right-hander Hunter Greene, the No. 2 draft pick last year, was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will attempt rest and rehabilita­tion as opposed to undergoing Tommy John surgery. Also, Jesus Reyes was recalled from Louisville, and fellow right-hander Tyler Mahle was optioned to the Triple-a club.

Pirates: Third baseman/ shortstop Jung Ho Kang underwent season-ending surgery on his left wrist. Also, right-handed reliever Dovydas Neverauska­s was recalled from Indianapol­is, and right-hander Nick Kingham — a Sierra Vista product — and left-handed reliever Steven Brault were optioned to the Triple-a club.

Marlins: The estate of pitcher Jose Fernandez settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the families of the two other men who were with him in a fatal boat crash in Florida in September 2016. The attorney said he couldn’t disclose details.

Twins: Outfielder Johnny Field, a Bishop Gorman product, was claimed off waivers from Cleveland and optioned to Triple-a Rochester, and right-handed reliever Oliver Drake was claimed off waivers from Toronto.

Astros: Right-handed reliever Chris Devenski (tight left hamstring) was placed on the 10day disabled list, and left-handed reliever Cionel Perez was recalled from Triple-a Fresno.

Blue Jays: Center fielder Kevin Pillar (right shoulder sprain) was activated from the disabled list, and right-handed reliever Brandon Cumpton was optioned to Triple-a Buffalo.

Red Sox: Blake Swihart

(right hamstring strain) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and fellow catcher Dan Butler’s contract was purchased from Triple-a Pawtucket.

Cubs: Brian Duensing (inflamed left shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list, and fellow left-handed reliever Randy Rosario was recalled from Triple-a Iowa.

Diamondbac­ks: Left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin was activated from paternity leave, and utility player Chris Owings was optioned to Triple-a Reno.

Athletics: Outfielder Ramon Laureano was recalled from Nashville, and right-handed reliever Carlos Ramirez was sent outright to the Triple-a club.

Yankees: Tommy Kahnle was recalled from Scranton/wilkesbarr­e, and fellow right-handed reliever Luis Cessa was optioned to the Triple-a club.

White Sox: Kevan Smith was placed on paternity leave, and fellow catcher Dustin Garneau was recalled from Triple-a Charlotte.

Angels: Center fielder Mike Trout (jammed right wrist) was held out of Los Angeles’ lineup for a second straight game.
