Koreas plan talks as North urges U.S. to ease sanctions

The rival Koreas plan to hold highlevel talks Monday to prepare for a third summit between their leaders, as Pyongyang called on the United States to reciprocat­e its “goodwill measures.”

North Korea criticized senior U.S. officials for insisting that it give up its nuclear weapons before sanctions are eased. Notably, the statement didn’t directly criticize President Donald Trump.

“Some high-level officials within the U.S. administra­tion” aremaking “desperate attempts at intensifyi­ng the internatio­nal sanctions and pressure,” North Korea said Thursday.

HARARE, Zimbabwe — Senior Zimbabwean opposition figure Tendai Biti was charged Thursday with inciting public violence and declaring unofficial election results as fears grew about a government crackdown following the disputed July 30 election.
