Fewer than 1,000 NV Energy customers were without electricity Monday evening after a weekend storm damaged power lines and equipment, according to the power company.

Powerful winds launched a metal shed into power lines near Bruce and Fremont streets, leading to outages in the area, the company stated.

More than 60,000 customers initially lost power in the Las Vegas Valley in what NV Energy vice president of operations Kevin Geraghty said might have been “our largest outage ever.”

As of 6:30 p.m. Monday, 763 customers remained without power in Clark County.

The largest outage was in the 89118 ZIP code, which covers part of the south valley, affecting about 320 customers. According to NV Energy, power there went out Friday morning after a crash damaged equipment on Oquendo Road near Dean Martin Drive.

About 200 customers were without power in the 89101 ZIP code, which covers the eastern central valley.

Geraghty told the Las Vegas Review-journalonsundaythatnv Energy crews from Reno and Carson City were expected to join local crewsmondaytorepairdamaged power lines.

Clark County opened four shelters to help house those affected by the outages. Shelters at Walnut and Winchester community centers have since closed, but a shelter at Cambridge Recreation Center remained open Monday, said Clark County spokesman Erik Pappa.

Residents affected by the outages who need transportation to a shelter can call Nevada 2-1-1 or NV Energy Customer Service at 702402-5555.
