Men’s soccer picked to finish second in WAC
UNLV men’s soccer has been picked to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference as the league office announced the 2018 WAC Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday morning.
In addition, three Rebels were named to the Preseason ALL-WAC squad, the second-highest number in the conference behind preseason favorite Seattle’s four representatives. This marks the first time since 2015 that UNLV placed three on the team.
Making a repeat appearance on the preseason team is junior midfielder Timo Mehlich. Sophomore forward Marco Gonzalez and senior defender Adam Musovski, both Las Vegas natives, also appeared on the squad.
Tickets: All students in elementary, middle and high schools will receive free entry to Olympic sporting events at UNLV beginning later this week. That includes volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, softball and baseball.
To receive free admission, high school students must present valid Nevada area school I.D. at the box office on game day to receive one (1) complimentary ticket. All other students will receive a complimentary ticket at the box office (no I.D. required).
Women’s soccer: Former Rebel Michaela Kelsey joined the program as an assistant coach, head coach Chris Shaw announced. Kelsey was a fifthyear senior a season ago and graduated from UNLV last spring.
Volleyball: UNLV was picked to finish last in the Mountain West in the conference’s preseason poll. The Rebels open their season at 10 a.m. August 24 at Cox Pavilion against Indiana. Ramsey called Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger “decent at best.”
Jets: New York rookie quarterback Sam Darnold could get the nod in his team’s next preseason game Thursday.
Coach Todd Bowles would only say, “All of our quarterbacks need to be ready to play,” but Darnold took the majority of first-team snaps this week.
