Heisman runner-up RB Love highlights All-america team
Heisman Trophy runner-up Bryce Love of Stanford and Outland Trophy winner Ed Oliver of Houston highlight The Associated Press preseason All-america team.
Chosen by AP poll voters, the team announced Tuesday also features West Virginia’s Will Grier at quarterback.
Love, along with Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell, Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Edwards and Utah kicker Matt Gay, were the only players who made first team All-american after last season and first team to start this season.
Clemson and Wisconsin led the way with three players each on the first team.
Louisiana State: Tigers sophomore offensive lineman Ed Ingram was arrested on sexual assault charges in early August, around the same time the projected starter was suspended indefinitely for an unspecified violation of team rules, authorities in Dallas said.
Ingram started 12 games as a freshman last season.
Memphis: Quarterback Brady White will start the Tigers’ Sept. 1 season opener with Mercer.
White, a graduate transfer from Arizona State with two years of eligibility remaining, won a competition with sophomore David Moore. Memphis coach Mike Norvell said Moore has left the program and plans to transfer.
South Alabama: The city of Mobile, Alabama, is refusing to put $10 million into an oncampus stadium for South Alabama. City Council members reportedly voted against the proposal 4-3 on Tuesday.
