Saban not set to make call at QB for Alabama

Alabama coach Nick Saban didn’t say Monday whether Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa will start at quarterbac­k for the defending national champion Crimson

Tide when they open the season Saturday against Louisville.

Alabama has won 26 of the 28 games Hurts has started. Tagovailoa led the Tide to victory in last season’s playoff championsh­ip.

UCLA: Offensive lineman Boss Tagaloa and tight end Devin Asiasi were suspended for three games, running back Soso Jamabo for two games and defensive linemen Osa Odighizuwa and Moses Robinson-carr and defensive back Mo Osling for one game for violating unspecifie­d team rules, coach Chip Kelly said.

Pittsburgh: QB Jeff George Jr., who played 11 games for Illinois in 2016 and 2017 before joining Michigan as a graduate transfer, transferre­d to Pittsburgh. Coach Pat Narduzzi said it is not clear if George will be eligible to play this season.

Florida State: Deondre Francois, who threw for 3,350 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2016 before sustaining a season-ending knee injury in last year’s opener, will start at QB for the No. 19 Seminoles, coach Willie Taggart said.

Nebraska: Tristan Gebbia no longer is enrolled at the school after being beaten out for the Cornhusker­s’ starting QB role, leaving sophomore walk-on Andrew Bunch as starter Adrian Martinez’s top backup.

Mississipp­i State: Sophomore Keytaon Thompson will start at QB Saturday in place of senior Nick Fitzgerald, who was suspended because of a “violation of team policy,” coach Joe Moorhead said.

Clemson: Kelly Bryant held off freshman Trevor Lawrence, ranked by ESPN as the nation’s second-best college prospect, for the No. 2 Tigers’ starting QB role, coach Dabo Swinney said.

Louisiana State: Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow, who played 10 games as a backup with the Buckeyes, will start at QB in the No. 25 Tigers’ season opener, coach Ed Orgeron said.

Arkansas: Sophomore QB Cole Kelley, who completed

57.6 percent of his passes while starting four games last season, will open as the Razorbacks’ starter, coach Chad Morris said.

Florida: Sophomore Feleipe Franks, who threw for 1,438 yards and nine TDS in 11 games last season, will open the season as the Gators’ starting QB, coach Dan Mullen said.
