Angels 3, Astros 0 — At Houston, Andrelton Simmons hit a two-run homer in Los Angeles’ three-run sixth to back rookie Jaime Barria (9-8), who allowed three hits over six shutout innings to improve his August ERA to 2.73 in six starts.

Athletics 7, Mariners 5 — At Oakland, Calif., Stephen Piscotty and Matt Chapman homered for Oakland, which pulled within 1 1/2 games of Houston atop the AL West and padded its lead for the second wild card to 5 1/2 games over Seattle.

Indians 3, Rays 0 — At Cleveland, Edwin Encarnacio­n hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh to back Corey Kluber (17-7), who allowed two singles and two walks and struck out eight over seven shutout innings.

Twins 10, Rangers 7 — At Arlington, Texas, Jake Cave hit a tiebreakin­g home run in an eight-run fifth by Minnesota, which overcame a 6-0 deficit. Four Twins relievers combined for nine strikeouts over 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

City, Mo., Ryan O’hearn homered among his three hits and drove in four runs, and fellow rookies Hunter Dozier and Cam Gallagher also went deep for Kansas City.
