Virginia Tech has no issue handling rain, Florida State

- The Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Josh Jackson threw two touchdown passes, one early and another late, as No. 20 Virginia Tech handled 19th-ranked Florida State 24-3 in the rain Monday to spoil coach Willie Taggart’s Seminoles debut.

Florida State looked disorganized most of the night, including on both of Jackson’s TD passes.

Jackson connected with Eric Kumah over the middle with less than six minutes to play. Kumah bounded through three arm tackles and raced 49 yards for the score.

Jackson opened with a 10-yard TD pass to Damon Hazelton in the corner of the end zone. Jackson lofted a pass that cornerback Levonta Taylor looked lost trying to defend. Jackson completed 16 of 26 passes for 207 yards. Kumah totaled four catches for 86 yards and scored on a blocked-punt return, the Hokies’ 75th blocked punt since 1987.

Wide receiver Mike Dudek will miss the rest of the season, coach Lovie Smith said, because of a knee injury sustained Saturday in the Illini’s win over Kent State, the third major knee injury of the senior’s career. Dudek led all FBS freshmen with 79.8 yards receiving per game in 2014.

The Big Ten Network indefinitely suspended analyst Braylon Edwards for violating its social media policy after the former Michigan All-america wide receiver tweeted harsh criticism of the Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh’s coaching, terming the program “trash.”

Running back Cole Gest, the Hoosiers’ second-leading rusher in 2017, sustained a torn ACL in Indiana’s win Saturday over Florida International and will miss the rest of the season, coach Tom Allen said.
