Donaldson set to join Tribe lineup Tuesday

-

The American League Centralleading Cleveland Indians got star reliever Andrew Miller back Monday and plan to put former AL MVP third baseman Josh Donaldson in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Miller, 33, had been out since Aug. 27 with a left shoulder injury, the latest setback in a rough season for the two-time All-star. Miller has a 3.24 ERA over 25 innings after striking out two in a perfect sixth inning Monday in Cleveland’s 6-5 loss at Tampa Bay.

Donaldson, 32, acquired from Toronto on Aug. 31, batted .234 with five home runs and 16 RBIS this season for the Blue Jays. He hasn’t played in the majors since May 28 because of a left calf strain. He also was out from April 11 to May 2 with a shoulder problem.

Donaldson went 3-for-12 with two home runs and six RBIS in four games with Triple-a Columbus. He will start at third base, with Jose Ramirez moving from third to second and Jason Kipnis, the starting second baseman, shifting to center field.

Yankees: Right fielder Aaron Judge took on-field batting practice for the first time since sustaining a fractured right wrist July 26, a fiveround session that included balls hit over the fence to left, center and right field at Target Field. Manager Aaron Boone still does not have a timetable for when Judge, who has 26 home runs and 61 RBIS and is batting .285 in 99 games this season, will return to New York’s lineup.

Cardinals: Right-hander Adam Wainwright (inflamed right elbow) made his first start in four months and allowed four runs on seven hits, including two homers, and struck out three over five innings in St. Louis’ 8-7 win over Pittsburgh. Also, catcher Yadier Molina (tight left hamstring) sat out a fourth straight game but is expected to return during the Cardinals’ current sevengame homestand.

Phillies: Philadelphia’s home game against Washington was postponed because of wet field conditions and rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader Tuesday. Field conditions were poor because of the tarp having not been out through weekend rain. The Citizens Bank Park grounds crew used blow torches Monday to try to dry the grounds.

Dodgers: Left-hander Julio Urias, 22, was activated from the disabled list after missing more than a year following left shoulder surgery in June 2017 and will work in low-leverage relief.

Reds: Left-handed reliever Amir Garrett, a Findlay Prep product who had been out since Aug. 29 because of a left foot contusion, was activated from the disabled list.
