Stanford running back Love injured, ruled out

- The Associated Press

All-america running back Bryce Love will miss No. 9 Stanford’s game against UC Davis on Saturday with an injury.

Cardinal coach David Shaw would not disclose specifics about Love’s injury.

Love was the Heisman Trophy runner-up last season after running for 2,118 yards. He had 126 yards on 22 carries last week in a victory against Southern California after being held to 29 yards by San Diego State in the opener.

Stanford plays at No. 20 Oregon on Sept. 22.

Duke quarterback Daniel Jones is out indefinitely with a broken collarbone.

Backup Quentin Harris will start Saturday at Baylor.

Jones, the team’s third-year starter, broke his left clavicle while taking a blindside hit in the second half of last week’s 21-7 victory at Northwestern after throwing three touchdown passes.

Coach Bill Snyder named Skylar Thompson the starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Texas-san Antonio.

Thompson and Alex Delton competed for the job throughout the offseason, then both played in the Wildcats’ first two games.

Coach Chad Morris still hasn’t chosen a starting quarterback between Ty Storey and Cole Kelley.

Neither stood out in the Razorbacks’ 34-27 loss at Colorado State on Saturday. Morris expects both to play this Saturday against North Texas.

Kelley has completed 15 of 21 passes for 194 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions this season. Storey has completed 17 of 30 for passes for 297 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions and has rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown on five carries.

Running back Kirvonte Benson will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Duke: Kansas State: Arkansas: Georgia Tech:

Benson is a junior who rushed for 1,053 yards last season in his debut as a starting back. He was injured in last week’s 49-38 loss to South Florida.

Redshirt freshman Jordan Mason likely will take over the starting spot, with Jerry Howard as the top backup.

A judge ordered Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus to stand trial on charges that he sexually assaulted two drunken women this spring, rejecting a motion from his attorneys to dismiss one of the counts alleging that the women weren’t as impaired as investigators say.

Prosecutors charged Cephus in August with second- and third-degree sexual assault, both of which are felonies. The second-degree charge carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. According to a criminal complaint, Cephus sexually assaulted two drunken women at once in the bedroom of his apartment in April.

Cepus, a 6-foot-1-inch junior from Macon, Georgia, has said the sex was consensual and denied any wrongdoing. He attended the hearing but did not testify. Afterward, he told reporters he was innocent and doing “great.”

Cephus was suspended indefinitely from the Badgers and did not play in either of the team’s first two games. According to the criminal complaint, Cephus’ roommate, fellow receiver Danny Davis, was present during the assaults and took photos of the women.

Davis hasn’t been charged. He was suspended for Wisconsin’s first two games but is eligible to return Saturday against BYU.

Cephus amassed 501 yards receiving last season and led the Badgers with six touchdown catches despite breaking his right leg last November. Davis, a sophomore from Springfield, Ohio, caught 26 passes for

418 yards and five touchdowns last season.
