Suspended LSU receiver arrested for second time

Suspended Louisiana State wide receiver Drake Davis was arrested Sunday for a second time on charges of beating his girlfriend and violating protective orders.

An arrest warrant said there was evidence of two additional batteries since Davis was arrested Aug. 17 and ordered to have no contact with the woman. The LSU football team indefinite­ly suspended Davis after his first arrest.

Florida: Sophomore running back Malik Davis will miss an “extended period” after sustaining a broken left foot, coach Dan Mullen said, adding that linebacker David Reese, the Gators’ top tackler with 102 last year, is set to return after missing three games with an ankle injury.

Rutgers: Senior cornerback Blessuan Austin needs surgery to repair an injury to the same knee that caused him to miss all but four games in 2017 and likely will miss the rest of the season, coach Chris Ash said.

North Carolina: The Tar Heels will collect nonperisha­ble food, water and cleaning supplies near the Smith Center from Tuesday through Friday to aid areas of the state affected by Hurricane Florence.

Duke: The Blue Devils will allow fans to buy a $5 general admission ticket for next month’s game against Virginia for every three items donated for hurricane relief from the list of requested contributi­ons by Sept. 29.

South Dakota State: Coach John Stiegelmei­er apologized to Arkansaspi­ne Bluff for allowing his team to amass 926 yards of offense in its 90-6 win Saturday, saying he should have taken out all passing plays.

North Carolina State: Tight end Cary Angeline, a 6-foot-7-inch redshirt sophomore transfer from Southern California, was cleared to play for the Wolfpack, team spokespers­on Annabelle Myers said.
