Manziel to start for Montreal for first time in over month

-

Johnny Manziel will start for Montreal on Friday at Winnipeg in the Canadian Football League.

The 25-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner hasn’t played since sustaining a concussion in his second start for the Alouettes, a 24-17 loss to Ottawa on Aug. 11.

He returned to practice last week after battling the flu and made headlines when he wondered publicly if Montreal had lost faith in him, and added that he was healthy enough to play the previous two weeks.

Manziel completed 27 of 46 passes in his previous two starts with Montreal for 272 yards and four interceptions.

Golf: Teammates and others who knew an Iowa State golfer from Spain who was killed this week while playing golf near campus shared stories about her and lit candles in her memory in Ames, Iowa.

The vigil Wednesday evening to remember 22-year-old Celia Barquin Arozamena drew a large crowd north of the Campanile, a bell tower on the Ames campus.

Police charged a 22-year-old homeless man who had been staying in an encampment near the golf course with first-degree murder in her stabbing death.

NHL: The Buffalo Sabres signed forward Sam Reinhart to a two-year contract worth $7.3 million. The 22-year-old has 65 goals and 140 points in 249 career games.

Tennis: Rafael Nadal said he will not play in upcoming tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai because of an injured right knee.
