Burglars damage Puig’s home while trying to steal safe

Burglars caused

$10,000 worth of damage to Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig’s home while attempting to steal a safe.

According to the

Los Angeles Police Department, the suspects broke into Puig’s San Fernando Valley home Tuesday while Puig was at Dodger Stadium. They ransacked the residence, found a safe in the secondfloo­r master bedroom and dragged it downstairs to the front door.

Police said Thursday the suspects then fled, leaving the safe in the entry way. An inventory is being conducted to determine what else was taken.

In other Dodgers news, Jaime Jarrin, the Hall of Fame broadcaste­r who is the team’s Spanishspe­aking voice, agreed to a contract extension for 2019 and 2020, which would be his 61st and

62nd seasons with the team. Jarrin, who turns 83 in December, is to be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor on Friday.

Rays: Outfielder Austin Meadows, righthande­d relievers Chih-wei Hu and Austin Pruitt and left-handed reliever Hoby Milner were recalled from Triple-a Durham. Meadows, 23, acquired from Pittsburgh on July 31 in the Chris Archer trade, batted .344 with 10 home runs and 22 RBIS in 27 regular-season games with Durham, helping the Bulls reach the Triple-a National Championsh­ip Game.

Athletics: Oakland is unbeaten in 14 straight home series (12-0-2), the longest such streak in franchise history since the 1931 Philadelph­ia A’s went 17-0-2 through their first 19 home series. Also, right-hander Trevor Cahill (upper back strain), out since Sept. 9, reported no significan­t discomfort after throwing a 35-pitch bullpen session and could start Sunday, manager Bob Melvin said.

Mets: Infielder Wilmer Flores will miss the rest of the season because of soreness in both knees. Manager Mickey Callaway said Flores, 27, has earlyonset arthritis in both knees and will receive injections to alleviate the pain. Flores hit .267 this season with 11 home runs and 51 RBIS, making 73 starts at first base, nine at third base and six at second base.

Tigers: Right-hander Michael Fulmer underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and is expected to be at full strength by the start of spring training, manager Ron Gardenhire said. Fulmer, 25, was 3-12 with a 4.69 ERA in 24 starts this season.

Pirates: Right-hander Chad Kuhl underwent reconstruc­tive surgery on his right elbow Wednesday and will miss the 2019 season. Kuhl, 26, was 5-5 with a 4.55 ERA in 16 starts this year and 18-20 with a 4.27 ERA in three seasons with Pittsburgh.
