UNLV volleyball win streak comes to end vs. New Mexico

The UNLV volleyball team had its eightmatch winning streak snapped, falling to

New Mexico 25-14, 19-25, 25-23, 25-10 at Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico.

Lauren Twitty had 15 kills for the Lobos (8-7, 2-1 Mountain West).

Mariena Hayden had 18 kills and Kate Brennan had 11 kills for the Rebels (11-4, 2-1). Antonette Rolda added 42 assists and nine digs.

Arena football: Beau Bell, one of the greatest defensive players in UNLV history, was named general manager and assistant head coach of the Philadelph­ia Soul.

The Soul are the two-time defending Arena Football League champions.

Bell was Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 after leading the conference with 126 tackles and five forced fumbles.

The Cleveland Browns drafted Bell in the fourth round in 2008. He went on to become one of the AFL’S top players and was named league defensive player of the year in 2017.

Boxing: Former welterweig­ht champion Victor Ortiz has been charged with raping a woman inside a home in March, and his fight with John Molina scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

Police in Oxnard, California, said the 31-yearold Ortiz turned himself in to Ventura County Sheriffs on Tuesday. Police said the district attorney filed charges after a monthslong investigat­ion, and Ortiz surrendere­d after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The Ventura County Sheriff ’s website shows that Ortiz posted $100,000 bail and was released.

Ortiz (32-6-3, 25 knockouts) held the WBC welterweig­ht belt in 2011 before losing it to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Soccer: Mauro Manotas scored twice in the first half to lead the Houston Dynamo to the U.S. Open Cup title, 3-0 over the Philadelph­ia Union at Houston.

Houston qualified for the CONCACAF Champions League with the win.

Soccer: The Indonesian soccer league has suspended play during an investigat­ion into the killing of a fan by rival supporters.

Persija fan Haringga Sirila, 23, was allegedly beaten to death by supporters of Persib on Sunday outside a stadium in Bandung just before a match between the clubs. Persib won 3-2.

NBA: The NBA has told teams that it will have several events in the coming months designed to help improve workplace cultures, as well as find more ways to have women in leadership roles around the league.
