Red Sox tweak rotation, will start Eovaldi over Porcello for Game 3

-

Boston will start former Yankee Nathan Eovaldi rather than fellow right-hander Rick Porcello against New York in Game 3 of their American League division series Monday.

Manager Alex Cora said he made the decision because Porcello pitched twothirds of an inning of relief in Friday’s opener and he wanted to give him an extra day of rest. Porcello is to start Game 4 on Tuesday.

Eovaldi, 28, was 3-3 with a 3.33 in 11 starts and one relief outing for the Red Sox, who acquired him from Tampa Bay in July. He allowed no earned runs in three of four starts this year against the Yankees, for whom he pitched in 2015 and 2016.

Also, Cora said he expects left-hander David Price, who was pulled from his start Saturday after 1 2/3 innings and 42 pitches, to be available in relief in the coming days. And first baseman Mitch Moreland (tight right hamstring) is receiving “aggressive treatment,” but his status for Monday in uncertain, Cora said.

Indians: Right-hander Trevor Bauer, who pitched in relief in Cleveland’s losses to Houston in Games 1 and 2 of their ALDS, is available out of the bullpen Monday but still is an option to start a potential Game 4, manager Terry Francona said. Also, Yandy Diaz and Brandon

Guyer will be in the Indians’ lineup Monday in place of Yonder Alonso and Melky Cabrera, Francona said.

Astros: Manager A.J. Hinch said he’s “not expecting any problems” with Jose Altuve, who banged up his right knee Saturday — the knee that the Allstar second baseman injured in July, requiring a stint on the disabled list.

Twins: Corner infielder Miguel Sano was detained by police Sunday in his native Dominican Republic after being involved in a traffic accident. He reportedly was asked to stop at a police checkpoint but instead drove through and injured a police officer.
