Sale back with Red Sox; starting status for Game 5 undetermined
Chris Sale is back with the Red Sox and says he feels well enough to pitch. Whether he’ll start Game 5 of the AL Championship Series remains to be seen.
Sale returned to the team Tuesday in Houston after being hospitalized for a stomach illness. The club hasn’t specified the ailment or treatment, though manager Alex Cora said it was nothing serious.
Cora said before the game that Sale, the potential starter Thursday, might throw a bullpen during Game 3. That didn’t happen, but the lefty ace is expected to work off a mound Wednesday before Game 4.
Marlins: The team won county permission to move the kitschy, widely disliked Red Grooms sculpture out of Marlins Park to the plaza outside the ballpark.
The vote was a victory for Marlins CEO Derek Jeter, who can now remove from the ballpark one reminder of unpopular previous owner Jeffrey Loria’s regime.
Astros: The Indians have filed a complaint with the league about a man associated with the Astros attempting to film in their dugout during Game 3 of the AL Division Series, a person familiar with the situation said. MLB also said it is aware of a report by Metro Boston that a man claiming to be an Astros employee was removed from a credentialed area near the Red Sox dugout during the AL Championship Series opener at Fenway Park.
Angels: The team opted out of its Angel Stadium lease with the city of Anaheim, renewing the possibility it could build a stadium somewhere near its longtime Orange County home.
The team and the city will negotiate on a new deal to keep the Angels in the fourth-oldest ballpark in the major leagues. The Angels also will renew their explorations of the feasibility of building a stadium elsewhere in Southern California. The decision means the club has the ability to leave Angel Stadium after the 2019 season.
Rangers: Texas bench coach Don Wakamatsu interviewed for the team’s vacant manager’s spot that he filled in an interim role for the final 10 games of the season.
According to people familiar with the details, the Rangers interviewed Wakamatsu and Phillies third base coach Dusty Wathan on Tuesday.
With Wakamatsu and Wathan added to the list, the Rangers have conducted eight known interviews in an eight-day span in their search to replace Jeff Banister.
